New "Star Wars" trilogy, TV series in works

New

Not only was it announced that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would spearhead another trilogy in the Star Wars universe detached from the main Episodes, but also that a live action series would be produced to be released on Disney's very own streaming service, tentatively dated for 2019. StarWars.com also have the full report, confirming Johnson's involvement as writer and director of the trilogy, with Ram Bergman to produce. If you were wondering why he wasn't handling Episode IX after Colin Trevorrow left the picture, this very well be the reason.

"We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi", Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement released by Lucasfilm. Going from writing and directing a single entry in the franchise to being in charge of an entire trilogy is quite the show of faith.

While we all love Star Wars and everything that comes with it, it will be interesting to see how fans react to completely new characters having bonded with the Skywalker bloodline and all the familiar aliens we've grown to love.

Walt Disney Co.is making another trilogy of "Star Wars" movies, its second since it bought Lucasfilm and the fourth since the space drama debuted in 1977. The streaming service (or services) is now expected to launch sometime in 2019, but there is no word yet on when the TV series is expected to debut, let alone plot details. Next year, the troubled Solo: A Star Wars Story will arrive in theaters to tell the origins of Han Solo before the events of the original Star Wars film.

For forty years, the Skywalker family has been the central focus of the Star Wars saga, as it chronicled the rise and fall of Anakin and his children, Luke and Leia.
