Police locate second missing Chinese student targeted in ransom scam

Police say that three Chinese national students believed to have been manipulated by extortionists into disappearing have been found safe, Toronto police say.

Liu was last seen on Friday in the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue W area.

Toronto police have warned of a scam involving attempts to convince families in China that their loved ones have been kidnapped, demanding a ransom.

'They're being told to go into hiding or their families in China will be hurt, ' said Media Relations Officer for the Toronto Police department Const.

"Obviously (she is) traumatized by the whole thing but at no point was she harmed or her family", said Sidhu.

She was one of three global students that police said may have received threatening phone calls before vanishing.

And Ke (Jaden) Xu, 16, who was last seen in on November 9, was located on Monday morning in Ontario.

Police say one of the victims became aware of the scam when she turned her phone on in the Montreal area.

Anyone with any information about these instances is asked to call police at 416-808-2222 immediately.

Liu was one of two students found over the weekend.

Ke "Jaden" Xu, 16, was last seen Thursday morning in the Eglinton and Midland avenues area. Juanwen Zhang, 20, was found safe on Saturday but Ke (Jaden) Xu, 16, is still missing.

"She is described as 5'6", with a thin build, long black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red winter jacket, grey trousers and carrying a black backpack.
