Range Rover Autobiography debuts with PHEV option, LWB only

Land Rover has pulled the covers off an updated version of its flagship Range Rover SUV ahead of its premiere at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

With a public debut later this week at the LA Motor Show, this £167,750-SUV is one of the most expensive, opulent cars Range Rover has ever produced, and will be aiming to take on the Bentley Bentayga.

This being the long wheelbase, rear occupants benefit the most, with a staggering 1.2 metres of legroom on offer.

Well, yes. But nearly 50 years ago, the Range Rover was exhibited at the Lourve not based on its luxury, comfort and refinement - but because it was considered an "exemplary work of industrial design". Up until now it's only been available in regular wheelbase form and only with the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 producing 405kW.

While there are a number of powertrain options, like other Range Rovers, the pick of the crop is an advanced new plug-in hybrid electric-petrol which can run exclusively on electric power for up to 31 miles. Electrically deployable rear tables and integrated 10-inch Touchscreen rear entertainment screens allows rear passanegers to 4G WiFi connectivity to work or relax, while a concealed refrigerator between the twin rear seats can hold two wine bottles or four 600ml bottles. Rear-seat passengers are now able to close the rear doors using buttons located on the center console.

Designers also garnished the rear cabin with a Zenith high-end clock, said to be inspired by the Elite 6150 watch.

In between the rear seats is a fixed centre console that joins the main console in the front. The right-hand rear seat folds down for added luggage space, while there is also the option of a Power Deployable Veneered Loadspace Floor to make loading and unloading luggage even easier.
