Respawn Is Now Officially A Part Of EA

Electronic Arts announced on Thursday that they'll acquire indie game development studio Respawn Entertainment, the creators of Titanfall. The two companies have worked together extensively in the past, as Electronic Arts published both Titanfall titles, and Respawn are now working on a Star Wars title.

Well, not anymore. Today, EA has announced that it has acquired Respawn Entertainment for a cool $315 million in cash and stock, plus a possible bonus of $140 million.

Respawn was founded in 2010 by Zampella and Jason West, also the co-founders of Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward, and has released two games thus far, both of them Titanfall. In a blog post concerning the deal on the Respawn website, Zampella says that the studio is joining EA to better compete in the future with access to more resources, new technologies, and more.

According to Zampella the deal "doesn't change the future of Titanfall", and it will only lead to positives for the fledgling franchise, including more resources. This announcement comes only weeks after EA revealed that it would close down Visceral Games and transfer the development of its Star Wars project to another team.

Respawn is the creator and developer of the critically-acclaimed Titanfall franchise that energized the first-person shooter genre with its innovative gameplay. Titanfall 2 was tremendously received previous year despite poor sales which are widely pinned on the timing of the launch. "While it wasn't necessary, going with EA made a lot of sense", he wrote. "This is a great next step for Respawn, EA, and our players".

Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President at EA, echoed his views as well, saying that the company wants the best games and a good relationship.

Respawn will join EA's Worldwide Studios organization, a global creative collective of leading game development studios bringing to life an unmatched portfolio of top games and services across all major platforms.
