SAFA point to development following World Cup qualification failure

Speaking on the matter, Jurgen Klopp said, "I'm really happy for Senegal that they could go to the World Cup and they need Sadio Mane for this, I understand, he is fit to play".

South Africa last qualified for the 2002 Fifa World Cup, having gained automatic participation as hosts in 2010. "Our coach stressed before the match the importance of qualifying for the World Cup and we gave everything throughout the match".

Morocco are one point in front of the Ivory Coast ahead of a showdown in Abidjan with the visitors hoping to end a 20-year absence from the World Cup.

South Africa defeated Senegal 2-1 in Polokwane last November, but Federation Internationale de Football Association ordered a replay because of "match manipulation" by Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey, who was banned for life. The Hammers striker calmly put Mane's assist into the back of the net in the 12th minute.

Sadio Mane found some space on the right and his defence-splitting ball was ideal for Sakho to slide the ball past the masked Itumeleng Khune in the Bafana goal.

Bafana came even closer a few minutes later when Mkhize's low cross into the box was met by Lebogang Manyama, whose shot cannoned off the crossbar with N'Diaye well beaten.

Sibusiso Vilakazi had the first opening of the second period, but his snap-shot was straight at N'Diaye when a yard either side of the keeper would likely have resulted in a goal. It's unknown how long he could miss, if any time at all.

Mane will now miss the dead rubber match with South Africa, though it is currently unknown whether the injury has flared up to an extent that it will keep him out of action once more.
