Stranger Things 2: Nielson claims 16 million people watched the first episode

Stranger Things 2: Nielson claims 16 million people watched the first episode

"On Stranger Things, both seasons, because the Duffers write and rewrite and rewrite, they just like hammer this material so rigorously before it ever shoots that everything has a objective".

Nielson also reported nearly 400,000 people watched all nine episodes of Stranger Things 2 on the first day it was available.

The hit series by the Duffer brothers reportedly became the most talked about streaming show on Twitter over an opening weekend in 2017, garnering at least 3.7 million tweets after its premiere. But the company frequently proclaims its most popular shows to be hits.

Nielsen said the first episode of "Stranger Things 2" averaged 15.8 million viewers in the U.S. in the first three days it was available.

Nielsen's stats, released Thursday, are the first of their kind shared publicly by the television ratings giant. That measurement has been controversial, as Netflix and others have disputed its accuracy.

There are about 53 million Netflix subscribers in the United States. So you'll notice there's very few scenes-even like a delicious treat like Billy flirting with Karen Wheeler, it serves a goal; he's trying to get information from her.

Nielsen measures only TV viewing, not those watching on mobile devices. It's possible these numbers are much higher because they do not reflect people who watch on phones, some tablets and some computers, as well.

It's clear Stranger Things 2 was a huge success, though.

Netflix does not share their viewership numbers or ratings with the public. The average binge session for Stranger Things' second season was at about three episodes, and a dedicated 361,000 watched the entire season within the first 24 hours of its release.
