SUPER MARIO BROS. Reboot Film In Talks With MINIONS Studio

SUPER MARIO BROS. Reboot Film In Talks With MINIONS Studio

I never thought that we would use Mario and Hollywood in the same sentence ever again.

Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of "Mario Bros.", is reportedly part of the film talks, and the Wall Street Journal reports he'll likely be a producer.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, they've nearly reached one of those partnership deals with the studio behind the Minions movie, Illumination Entertainment.

In one of the highest profile licensing deals made by a Hollywood studio in decades, Illumination Entertainment have nearly sealed the deal make the animated movie.

According to "one person close to the talks", the largest issue in the negotiations has been making Nintendo feel confident that it will be involved in the creative process.

It looks like Nintendo will be working on creating another Mario movie, except it won't be live-action this time. The agreement seems more likely considering how Universal's theme parks are set to host some Nintendo-themed attractions in the coming years. Polygon has reached out to both Nintendo and Illumination for comment.

It's easy to see why Nintendo hasn't made a film in a while; most movies based on video games are awful. The film is still in the early stages of planning and wouldn't be exiting any warp pipes for several years, and would be animated at Illumination's Paris-based studio Mac Guff.
