Tennessee recruit: Butch Jones 'told me to find a place to go'

Tennessee was not expected to win the SEC East, but they were projected to be competitive in the division with Georgia and Florida.

It was nearly certain that Butch Jones was going to lose his job and after Tennessee lost 50 - 17 to Missouri and now it's official that Butch Jones has been fired. He went 3-0 in bowl games and had the Vols ranked inside the Top 10 after a 5-0 start in 2016, but the decision to move on from Jones ends a five-year stretch mostly mired in mediocrity.

Dooley, Johnny Majors, Doug Dickey and Bowden Wyatt are the only Tennessee coaches to endure one-win conference campaigns. On Sunday, Butch Jones was sacked as head coach of the Volunteers with two games remaining in a miserable season.

Defensive line coach Brady Hoke, the former University of MI head coach, will serve as UT's interim head coach for the last two games. He can certainly provide a steadying hand, drawing on previous head coaching experience at Ball State, San Diego State and MI.

Hoke last acted as a head coach during 2014 in his final season with the Michigan Wolverines. Jones did things that hadn't been done at Tennessee in a while. both good and bad. And now, the football program is looking for its fourth head coach in nine years.
