Chris Gayle smashes 18 sixes, shatters many records in Bangladesh Premier League

Chris Gayle smashed records by hitting 18 sixes in his unbeaten 146 off 69 balls to guide Rangpur Riders to a 57-run win in the final against Dhaka Dynamites.

His 146, coming off only 69 balls, also contained five fours and helped the Riders to a total of 206 for one off their 20 overs, which they defended easily, winning by 57 runs.

Capitalising on a chance on 22 when he was dropped by Shakib-al-Hasan at cover in the sixth over, the 38-year-old Gayle tore into the Dynamites bowling with relish. He was duly supported by Brendon McCullum, who scored his second fifty in as many games. He broke his own record of most sixes in a T20 innings, going past the 17 he hit on way to the highest T20 score of an unbeaten 175 in the 2013 IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

It speaks to Gayle's dominance that McCullum's share in the partnership was 51 off 43 balls. It turned out to be a good ploy, as Gayle hammered Shakib for three sixes to take the score past 200.

Shakib and Shahid Afridi needed to play their part now, if they were to steer clear of the danger, but both failed, falling victims to youngster Nazmul Islam, making 26 and 8 respectively.

Sri Lanka bowler Isuru Udana also bagged a brace to help Sohag and Nazmul complete the demolition job.
