Georgia earns first College Football Playoff bid

The College Football Playoff Committee released its final rankings on Sunday after a busy Championship Saturday. No. 2 Oklahoma will face No. 3 Georgia at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and No. 1 Clemson will face No. 4 Alabama at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

This year's CFP selections were a surprise for some fans who expected to see a team from the Big Ten or Pac-12 in the playoffs, or at least in the top six teams. "It's awesome", Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said on the ESPN selection show. If Georgia defeats Oklahoma, they will play the victor of the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta for the National Championship. The Hokies, under second-year head coach Justin Fuente, are 14-17 all-time in bowl games and are seeking their fourth straight win in postseason play. Alabama is also the first team to reach the playoff after losing its last game. "It's really fantastic how far we've come".

While it appears likely that the teams will play in the Rose Bowl, an official announcement has not been made yet. The Bulldogs finished off a national championship season in 1942 by beating UCLA 9-0.

Oklahoma State will meet Virginia Tech for the third time at the Camping World Bowl at 4:15 on December 28 in Orlando, Fla. The Sooners are one of, if not the best program that Georgia has never played before.

Smart will collect $900,000 in bonuses for Georgia's run so far: $500,000 for reaching the playoff, $250,000 for winning the SEC title and $150,000 for reaching the league title game. He will get another $200,000 if Georgia finishes in the top five of the final AP or coaches' poll.

"I can always remember watching it, hearing Keith Jackson call it, and it seems like it was always a great game", said Riley, who is from Texas. "Auburn was tremendous a year ago". Two years later, OU and Georgia won.

The consensus was that Georgia was still one year away from contending for National Championships. Hill picked up 18 yards On its second possession of the second half, TCU tried to pick up a fourth-and-inches in Oklahoma territory by sending Hill on a bootleg, but Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and Parnell Motley beat him to the boundary and knocked him out just short of the line to gain.

Preference goes to the top-ranked team.

"We have game tickets in the end zone that are starting at $250 per person", said DawnMarie Mannino.

"It's always been the one, looking from afar, that I haven't gotten a chance to be a part of yet that I was always hoping I'd get the chance to be in", Riley said.

At age 34, Riley is young but has a good pulse on his team and relates well to the players. The senior became the second-leading rusher in SEC history in the conference championship game after going for 77 yards against Auburn. The Sooners got into the game because Big Ten champion Ohio State earned a spot in the national title game.
