Heyman | Athletics to acquire Stephen Piscotty

Heyman | Athletics to acquire Stephen Piscotty

The Cardinals would get minor-league infielders Yairo Munoz and Max Schrock, as first reported by The San Francisco Chronicle and confirmed by a source.

Marcell Ozuna, Harrison Bader, Dexter Fowler, Randal Grichuk, Jose Martinez, Oscar Mercado, Tyler O'Neill, Tommy Pham, Stephen Piscotty and Magneuris Sierra.

Piscotty's mother, Gretchen, was diagnosed with ALS in early May, and Mike Matheny gave time for Piscotty to go home in Pleasanton, California to spend time with his mother once he found out about the heart-breaking news.

"I don't know if I can empathize with Piscotty".

Some of those struggles could have just been his swing, but not being with his mother could have taken effect on him as well.

Earlier Wednesday, the Cardinals traded four prospects, including their No. 9 ranked talent in pitcher Sandy Alcantara to the rebuilding Marlins for Ozuna. I think it's really just understanding that it is very, very hard.

Asked if he was going to leave the Winter Meetings with the right-handed hitting outfielder he coveted, Forst said: "I'm leaving with my luggage".

The former Amador Valley High star batted.235 last season but had an on-base percentage 107 points higher (.342). "We're trying to be support for him, and we have to look to do anything we can".

Piscotty impressed out of the gates and slashed.305/.359/.494 with seven home runs in 63 games in 2015, his first major league action. He batted.268 with 38 home runs and 163 RBI in 323 career games, and signed a six-year contract extension in April.

He did have his best defensive year and was responsible for eight total defensive runs saved in right field, per FanGraphs.

The deal that would send Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty back home to the Bay Area has been agreed upon but is awaiting results of a medical review Thursday before it could be finalized.
