Lamborghini Urus 2018 Finally Available for Purchase After Ten Years

More importantly, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 12.8 seconds and a top speed of 305 km/h, the Lamborghini Urus becomes the fastest SUV on the planet, besting the marks set by the more powerful (707 hp) but much heavier Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Ferrari is rumored to be the next luxury carmaker contemplating an SUV model.

The Lamborghini Urus is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine capable of up to 650 horsepower, supported by an eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard Carbon Ceramic Brakes are no less impressive: the Urus decelerates from 100-0 km/h in 33.7 metres.

Inside, the Urus has a slim dashboard inspired by the no-nonsense, military-style LM002 truck.

Urus also features such new technologies for Lamborghini as a rear tailgate that is electrically operated via a switch on the driver's door, a button on the key, or a manual button on the tailgate itself.

"The Lamborghini Urus is a visionary approach based on the infusion of Lamborghini DNA into the most versatile vehicle, the SUV", Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali said in a statement.

"It is the first ever Super Sport Utility Vehicle and it delivers an unparalleled experience", Lamborghini Chief Marketing Officer Katia Bassi said. "This is the point of no return for us" he said. The Urus, also known as Aurochs, is one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle.

In comparison, Lamborghini's Huracan Performante, which comes with a V10 engine, goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of nearly 202 miles per hour. The Urus elevates the SUV to a level not previously possible, the Super SUV.

Roughly 5% of the company's global buyers are female, according to Lamborghini, and a lot of them live in the U.S. and Europe.

Indeed, the addition of the Urus to Lamborghini's otherwise extreme fleet of track-ready supercars-most outfitted with dihedral doors or outré spoilers that scream for attention-is meant to expand its appeal to both families and female buyers.

"We are entering new markets that will be very important for the future of our growth".

The Lamborghini Urus will be available in spring 2018, with a starting price tag of about £150,890.
