Micromax eyes sales of 6 mn Bharat phones by Mar 2018

Micromax already sent out invites that it will launch a new budget smartphone called Bharat 5 on December 1.

The series, which was launched in May this year, comprise six devices. Micromax Bharat 5 will face competition from the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi 5A which comes at a price tag of Rs 4,999. The Bharat 2 Plus is the most affordable smartphone in the lot, effectively costing Rs. 1549 after the cashback of Rs. 2200.

Micromax Bharat 5 is being promoted as the product with the "power of 5" and everything about the handset is built around that.

Bharat 5 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor.

The Micromax Bharat 5 has been priced at Rs.5,555 in India and will go on sale across retail stores across the country soon. Users will get 10GB or additional data on whichever plan they're on for a period of 5 months.

- Micromax says that its Bharat-series aims to provide affordable phones to help feature phone users jump to smartphones.

The Nokia 2 comes bearing a 5-inch high-contrast LTPS display at the front, while the Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch HD IPS panel. Bharat 5 features a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front snapper, both equipped with LED flash for better low-light photography.

Micromax has no intention to end the "power of 5" with just Bharat 5 smartphone. The phone packs similar specs like the Bharat 4, except it's bigger battery. The phone gets 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Micromax Bharat 5 comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery, which promises up to two days of battery life with mixed usage and has 21 days of standby. Led by Reliance Jio, these cashback offers are available on high-end phones like the iPhone X, iPhone 8/8 Plus and Pixel 2/2 XL to entry-level phones like the JioPhone and Bharat 1.

Redmi 5A comes with a 5-inch HD display, Android 7.1 Nougat and Qualcomm's 425 quad-core processor.
