The former vice president who was at the PDP National Secretariat yesterday on a courtesy visit on the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, said their returning to PDP would make the party stronger.

The former vice president disclosed that his return was to help continue with the reform and re-branding of the party which the national caretaker committee had started.

"I want to assure you of my support and cooperation at all times, to make sure that these objectives are achieved by you and subsequently by your successors", he said.

Atiku resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress about a week ago, claiming that the ruling party had deviated from its promises to Nigeria. When we founded this party, we founded it based on the tenets of democracy, integrity and good governance.

Abubakar made the appeal during his first appearance at the party's National Secretariat, Abuja, with a crowd of supporters, three days after declaring his return to the party.

He urged him to continue to contribute in reinventing and remodeling of the party so that it could reclaim Aso Rock in 2019.

The APC national chairman further assured that Atiku's exit from the party would not lead to massive defection from APC as being insinuated in some quarters in the country. We are not just targeting Aso Rock, we are targeting the federal legislature, the state, both the executive and legislature, and we are targeting the local governments.

Due to an internal party crisis he defected to the APC in the run-up to the 2015 presidential election before losing the party's ticket to another eventual victor, President Buhari. "As a united party, we have the capacity and we have the ability to do so".
