Two Women Accuse California Asm. Matt Dababneh Of Sexual Harassment

Two Women Accuse California Asm. Matt Dababneh Of Sexual Harassment

Two women spoke out on Monday, accusing California Assemblyman Matt Dababneh of inappropriate contact.

"Mr. Dababneh unequivocally denies the occurrence of the incident of sexual harassment that you allege, or any other act of sexual harassment by him against you, at any time", his lawyer wrote.

Lopez says Dababneh pushed her into a washroom at a common companion's wedding festivity in Las Vegas in January 2016.

Lopez's attorney said her client was sent a cease and desist letter on Friday, trying to prevent Monday's announcement.

Dababneh, 36, strongly denied the allegations made by Pamela Lopez at a news conference Monday, saying, "I affirmatively deny that this event ever happened - at any time".

"I was face to face with Matt Dababneh and he had very quickly exposed himself and started masturbating", she said.

"It was a terrifying experience".

Barker said Dababneh was known for his sexually charged comments in the office and inappropriate conduct. "And I can't have it on my conscious that this may happen again".

Lopez was accompanied at the press conference by Jessica Yas Barker, a Democratic club leader in the San Fernando Valley who worked in the district office of Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks, in 2008 when Dababneh was Sherman's district director. "Unfortunately, it was largely brushed off. Before the ordeal ended, he told me not to tell anyone".

Young women in politics are especially vulnerable, she said, and many are "disappeared" after they are harassed or assaulted, even if they don't report the behavior. He noted that the layout of the room where the party was held would make it hard for any such incident to go unnoticed.

Lopez detailed the encounter in a New York Times story last October, but did not name Dabeneh. One week ago, Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra, D-Arieta, resigned after six women accused him of groping and harassing them.

Glaser also leads the legal team representing Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood movie mogul facing numerous allegations of sexual harassment and abuse.
