Confirmed: Lena Dunham has broken up with her boyfriend of five years

It's over for Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff. They reportedly split in December, and are said to have ended things amicably. "He showed me the joy of collaboration".

"It was amusing, the day that gay marriage became legal across this country, we were thrilled, we were celebrating, and then suddenly the texts just started coming - from our friends, from our mothers, from our exercise instructors being like, 'Finally, it's your time, '" Dunham explained.

Dunham, 31, and Antonoff, 33, celebrated five and a half years together in October, several months after Antonoff regaled her with a moonstone friendship ring that she giddily flaunted on Instagram. It's safe to say that the breakup comes as quite of a shock, especially since the two have been embroiled in engagement rumors fairly recently.

In November, she tweeted that she thought she overheard Jack planning a secret proposal to her, but later found out he was just joking around with his sister about something unrelated.

While marriage wasn't on the table, from Dunham's social media posts it seemed as if all was well.

We're all for unity in the face of sexual assault and harassment, but Dunham's background of defending alleged rapists may not make her the best spokesperson for this movement. Dunham posted screenshots from their FaceTime session including one where Antonoff was eating a banana, and one where he's eating a sandwich.

The actress, writer and producer and the hitmaking songwriter and producer were last seen publicly about a year ago at a Grammys pre-party, according to E! "I told Lena everything about my whole life, because when you really like someone, you want them to know everything about you", he said.

Both of the stars confirmed the news to People, saying that it was an amicable split. "They are moving on", the insider added.

But after being branded a "hypocrite" and was sent a deluge of criticism for her outspoken comments, she later issued an apology that was not directed to Perrineau but simply to "any women who have been disappointed".
