Hisense Smart TVs Adding Amazon Alexa Service In 2018

Hisense Smart TVs Adding Amazon Alexa Service In 2018

Devices from Amazon and Google are the clear leaders in the smart speaker category with their respective Echo and Home products.

"Whirlpool has created an Alexa skill leveraging these new cooking capabilities in the Smart Home Skill API for its connected microwaves, and expects to launch it soon", it writes. This means users will be able to utilize Alexa to do things like control volume and change inputs with different voice controls. Meanwhile, Amazon itself has invested in one smart oven startup.

But Amazon is cooking up another use for Alexa that could have far broader effects. Hisense has revealed that some of its 2018 4K TVs will include Amazon Alexa, letting you control both the set itself and your smart home. In 2016, as its Echo device and Alexa technology started to pick up momentum, Amazon made announcements with companies like Ford, HomeAdvisor, Whirlpool, and others who were integrating Alexa into their own products.

Another report from VoiceLabs published in January a year ago also ranks Alexa as the leading voice AI in terms of market share. Instead of pressing umpteen buttons, you can simply ask Alexa to "defrost 3lbs of chicken".

GE Appliances, LG, Samsung, and Kenmore also plan to add Alexa support for their ovens, as well as other appliances, at some point in the future.

To make this a success Amazon is also working with a handful of partners or developers to be precise, but it is yet to be seen as to how quickly the support will roll out.

Personal assistants have boomed in popularity since the first Amazon Alexa was released in 2014, and many consumer companies fear losing money and market share as a result of artificial intelligence technology.

The new feature, called Flash Briefing, is easily set up after downloading the Amazon Alexa app on an iOS or Android device.

It sounds like a useful area for Amazon to expand Alexa's reach, since people often have their hands full while cooking and appliances' interfaces are often pretty cramped and confusing. Hopefully, these companies are considering or taking necessary precautions to make sure that nothing leads to a risky situation or accidents.
