Intel Facing Multiple Lawsuits Over Chip Security Flaw

Intel has provided security patches ever since, but, the complaints raise concerns that these patches will hinder the performance of their computers and is not an adequate response to the serious issues raised against the company's products. AMD claims there's "near zero risk" to its processors from Spectre due to differences in chip architecture, while ARM notes that the majority of its chips are unaffected. The Meltdown flaw is less serious and can be patched by software that is already being released by numerous major computer operating systems.

The tech company disclosed the vulnerability not long after Intel said it's working to patch it. Intel says the average computer user won't experience significant slowdowns as it's fixed.

Meltdown and Spectre exploit critical vulnerabilities in modern processors.

Intel is up 22% over the previous year. They allege that the vulnerability, which Intel learned about several months ago, makes its chips inherently faulty. Some say performance speeds of Intel computers with older processors could slow down by as much as 30 per cent, though newer Skylake processors might not have face a severe impact.

"Businesses and consumers should update operating systems and apply patches as soon as they become available". Hackers are also able to tap into computers if they can find ways to trick victims into downloading malicious software onto their devices.

Apple had a partial fix for the problem and is expected to have an additional update. Google will release a new version of Chrome with a patch on January 23.

Google says it also affects other processors and the devices and operating systems running them.

Customers of Microsoft, the maker of the Windows operating system, will need to install an update from the company to fix the problem.

While Meltdown onlt affects Intel chips, another similar problem has been found to affect ARM and AMD chips as well as Intel CPUs, which allows protected information within programs and apps to be read by other programs with just regular user permissions.

It advised only getting apps from its online App Store which vets programs for safety, and said it has already released some "mitigations" to protect against the exploit and planned to release a defensive update for Safari on macOS and iOS in the coming days. But AMD jumped more than 5 percent following the publication of the security flaws, to close at $12.12 a share. "Most of the software vendors welcome that interaction as long as you see this disclosure in private first, so you have a chance to fix the bugs".
