Katie Couric Just Broke Her Silence on Matt Lauer's Sexual Misconduct Allegations

In November 2017, celebrated news anchorman Matt Lauer, was outed as a sexual predator, when he was sacked from the Today show, after he accused of assaulting a female worker.

Katie Couric is finally opening up about Matt Lauer's firing from "Today".

Katie Couric previously said that she would speak out about Matt Lauer's firing from the Today show when she was ready, and that time is now. "The accounts I have read and heard are upsetting, debilitating and disorienting plus it's really completely improper that any female in the Now show experienced this sort of treatment method".

Couric added that Lauer's conduct to her was always professional, and that he was like a brother.

"I've been very, very fortunate", she said, "I've been regaled by stories from so many friends who grew up with me in the business or other arenas who I never imagined had to deal with some of the things they had to deal with. But it was nice for me to be able to say that that was a joke", she explained. I guess I made [the joke] because it was, again, so contrary to the relationship I had with Matt which was respectful, and professional.

On the subject of Hoda Kotb's promotion to co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie, Couric enthused "I'm really happy for Hoda - I think she's a great person and her goodness shines through, I think the audience really likes her, and I think she and Savannah make a great team". "Thanks for your interest".

Still, the entire situation is "very upsetting" to Couric, and although she's still unsure how to fully process Lauer's actions, she's optimistic about the future of Today.

In comments made after his initial ouster, Lauer apologized for his past behavior.

"To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry". Because I am writing this, I still know the thickness of the disappointment and damage I have gone behind at home and in NBC. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly. In it, Couric says Lauer "pinches me on the ass a lot", a clip that went viral after Lauer's issues surfaced. I think companies certainly are in the midst of a lot of soul-searching and reexamining the culture that exists in their workplaces.
