Pokemon GO update requires new iPhone to play (for some)

Pokemon GO update requires new iPhone to play (for some)

Niantic revealed through an OTA update sent to affected devices that support for their systems will end on February 28. Today's video shows you how to clear cache, cookies and history on your iPhone or iPad. The update will come on February 28, so fans that want to keep playing will have to upgrade to a higher iPhone model. The company says that the reason behind taking away support for older systems is that the game has been upgraded and is now being pushed "beyond the capabilities of the operating system on such devices".

Wondering if your device is included in the purge?

Thankfully there's still several years worth of iPhone able to run the game, but iPhone 5 and 5C users are out of luck, alongside iPad 2, 3rd Generation, 4th Generation and the original iPad mini.

Pokemon GO will no longer be playable on older iOS devices.

Whilst no official announcement has been made on what happens when Groudon leaves the game, a change in the recent master file may indicate the imminent arrival of Kyogre as a new raid boss. This comes almost a week after the third beta was released to the same party. Tap "Download and install" next to the iOS 11.2.5 beta listing and you'll be good to go.

Thinking of taking on Mewtwo in one of the new Exclusive Raid Battle feature? Any of you that do, though, you're out of luck, I guess.

Which sort of highlights the problem with the whole Ex-Raid system, as there appears to be no reasoning behind who gets sent an invite. Provided you've update to iOS 11, you'll be able to play.

This week the folks at Niantic announced an update to Pokemon GO, an update that might not sit well for users of elderly iPhones.
