Sea of Thieves Closed Beta Starts on January 24th

Additionally, anyone who has pre-ordered the game will get access to this month's closed beta. Rare says that they will be holding a lot of the game back during the beta as to allow players to discover all there is to offer in Sea of Thieves once it releases in full.

For the piratical gamers who want to pick up one of these controllers, you can pre-order one now for $75.

The closed beta will start on 24 January at 12PM GMT / 7AM EST / 6AM CST / 5AM PST/ 8AM CET and run until Monday 29 January. Rare says the beta isn't a sample of the full game but a tailored experience "that offers a true taste of the pirate life".

Starting on January 24 at 4AM PST and lasting through January 29 at 12AM PST, Sea of Thieves Insiders who signed up before December 1 will get 5 days of Closed Beta access. The obvious drawback is if you don't play games in the dark, then you can't enjoy those sweet glowing features.

In Sea of Thieves, a group of players travel and explore an open world via a pirate ship and assume different roles such as steering, hoisting sails, navigation, firing cannons and other tasks. If you reserved the game at retail, you'll first need to redeem the code you received for the Black Dog cosmetic pack.
