Senate Democrats Just Released the Full Fusion GPS Testimony

After Democrats began paying for the research, Fusion GPS hired Christopher Steele, a former senior officer with Britain's intelligence service, MI6, to gather intelligence about any ties between the Kremlin and Trump and his associates.

The transcript, of an interview that Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson gave the Senate Judiciary Committee, was released on Tuesday by the committee's top Democrat, Sen.

One reason, according to Simpson, was a story in The New York Times on October 31, 2016 that said the Federal Bureau of Investigation hadn't found any connections between Trump world and the Russian attack on the election.

"Chris said he was very concerned about whether this represented a national security threat and said he wanted to - he said he thought we were obligated to tell someone in government, in our government about this information", Simpson said.

The dossier is a compilation of memos written by Steele during the 2016 campaign that contained allegations of connections between Trump and Russian Federation, including that Trump had been compromised by the Kremlin.

Steele's dossier has come under intense scrutiny, with Republicans questioning whether the document spurred the FBI's investigation into Trump's presidential campaign. Simpson would not name the source.

But in the late stages of the 2016 presidential campaign, Steele broke off contact with the FBI, Simpson said, because he did not believe it was taking him seriously enough. In any event, he said don't worry about that, I know the ideal person, I have a contact there, they'll listen to me, they know who I am, I'll take care of it.

Simpson also said Steele severed his contacts with the FBI before the election following disclosures that the bureau's inquiry had found no connection between Trump campaign and Russian Federation and concerns that it was being "manipulated for political ends by the Trump people".

Simpson's testimony was given to the Senate Judiciary Committee in August. He has also talked to the House and Senate intelligence committees.

"The American people deserve the opportunity to see what he said and judge for themselves", she said.

Democrats says those investigations are a distraction.

"The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public", she said.

"Fusion GPS commends Sen".

The disagreement between Grassley and Feinstein is further evidence of a breakdown on the panel after an initially bipartisan investigation.

"After speaking with majority and minority committee staff for 10 hours, Glenn Simpson requested the transcript of his interview be released publicly". That decision marks the most serious break yet in the cooperative relationship she has had with the Republican chairman of the committee, Sen. Lindsay Graham last week asked the Justice Department to investigate Steele, saying they had information that he may have made false statements to the government.

The release of the transcript, Feinstein said, was supported by committee Democrats.
