The Logan Paul Debacle Was a Long Time Coming

The Logan Paul Debacle Was a Long Time Coming

Paul, who has millions of Twitter followers and YouTube subscribers, posted an apology on his Twitter site, saying, "Where do I begin".

He wrote: "This is a first for me".

YouTube star Logan Paul has released a new online statement where he once again apologized for his behavior during his recent video about a suicide victim.

"I want to apologize to the internet, I want to apologize to anyone who's seen the video, I want to apologize to anyone who has been affected or touched by mental illness or depression or suicide, but most importantly, I want to apologize to the victim and his family", Paul now says. In the clip, Paul and his crew claimed to have come across the incident while exploring the Aokigahara forest, known widely as Japan's "Suicide Forest". "I should have never posted the video". There were a lot of things I should have done differently, but I didn't.

"I've made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgment and I don't expect to be forgiven". I'm just here to apologize.

In his latest statement, United States star Paul said: "I've made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement and I don't expect to be forgiven, I'm simply here to apologise". Paul teased the video pretty heavily, blasting out a tweet promising "the craziest and most real video [he's] ever uploaded". I'm ashamed of myself. I should've put the cameras down and stopped recording what we were going through. "I will be better".

When someone fucks up on the Internet, there tend to be immediate calls for the prompt end of that person's career, and Paul deserves to be raked across the coals here.

The Logan Paul Debacle Was a Long Time Coming

Paul and his friends then continue filming their video, saying that suicide is "not the answer" before Paul is filmed jokingly replying to an off-camera, apparently distraught friend saying "what, you've never seen a dead guy before?"

Logan Paul and his younger brother Jake Paul are well-known social media stars among younger audiences, and frequently posts videos of their adventures on YouTube.

It appears that Paul himself removed the offensive content, but some 18,000 people liked a post urging YouTube to take action against such material.

"If a video is graphic, it can only remain on the site when supported by appropriate educational or documentary information and in some cases it will be age-gated".

Suicide is not, and never will be a joking matter - something that should have been obvious to Paul.

YouTube also pointed out that it partners with groups such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline "to provide educational resources that are incorporated in our YouTube Safety Center".

Japan is known for having the high suicide rate and Aokigahara forest in particular's reputation as a destination for those wanting to take their own lives has attracted many documentarians. (One survey suggests that three-quarters of kids today aspire to be YouTubers when they grow up.) Paul has made millions of dollars off this hustle, and while he got burned this time, this trend will get worse before it gets better.
