Water Main Break Adds to Misery for Passengers at Kennedy Airport

No worldwide arrival flights were allowed into the terminal Sunday afternoon, but global departures were not affected, the airport tweeted.

A water main break at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport on Sunday caused major flooding, including in a baggage claim area, adding to the turmoil caused by weather-related flight delays in recent days. Authorities are investigating the cause of the break, which occurred just before 2 p.m. local time.

A water main break in Terminal 4 sent people fleeing in a partial evacuation and left bags and suitcases in water.

The break happened in Terminal Four, which is a main worldwide hub for the airport serving mainly Delta Airlines.

In the aftermath of the storm, passengers were kept on planes and waited hours to retrieve luggage as flights were delayed and cancelled, and a backup to get to terminal gates built up.
