Amazon makes changes to stop Alexa from randomly laughing at users

"Having an office conversation about pretty confidential stuff and Alexa just laughed".

Owners of Amazon Echo devices with the voice-enabled assistant had reported hearing them laugh at unexpected moments, with some calling the sound "really creepy".

That's because users of Amazon's Alexa personal assistant have been reporting some creepy unprompted laughter from the device. Yikes. In a statement released yesterday, however, the company said it'll be disabling the short phrase "Alexa, laugh", that may have been mistakenly heard by the device. Going further the response to this question could also be changed to giving a reply and then the laughter being played out instead of just laughing out. Few users on Twitter also wondered if the laugh is similar to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos or different!

Amazon recently said that it has launched a fix and explanation for Alexa's laughter. Amazon said it is aware of the problem, and it is working to deactivate Alexa's response to the command "laugh".

Do you think Alexa's newfound skills could bring you to Amazon's streaming services?

Picture this - still of the night, no soul in sight and, suddenly; your Amazon Echo starts laughing as if it heard the best joke ever.

Some people took to social media to claim that the laughter happened when they asked Alexa to play music or turn off the lights.

One Twitter user said, "So Alexa made a decision to laugh randomly while I was in the kitchen".

Amazon has first introduced Alexa together with the Amazon Echo in November 2014.
