Apple to release an updated MacBook Air this year

Virtually nothing has changed with the MacBook Air in terms of design since its debut way back in January 2008.

However, Kuo has not revealed other details about the new MacBook Air, so whether it will come with the lower price tag with less powerful specifications or will offer cheaper cost is unclear.

Having two Thunderbolt 3 ports in the form of the Type-C USB interface means that the 13-inch MacBook Pro might end up being passed up for a cheaper MacBook Air that will be able to deliver all that I/O throughput.

The current MacBook Air features a 1,440 x 900 resolution, which is nowhere near as crisp as the 2,304 x 1,440 resolution on the 12-inch MacBook or the 2,560 x 1,600 resolution on the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Until the company makes an official announcement, MacBook Air fans will just have to hope and wait.

Apple is likely to release a new MacBook Air "with a lower price tag" during the second quarter of 2018, meaning we should see it sooner rather than later, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities was quoted as saying to 9to5mac on Saturday.

Apple might be thinking of reviving its MacBook Air lineup with a brand new model at a cheaper rate than ever before.

The MacBook Air was unveiled by late Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs 10 years ago, but it has retained its popularity, especially among students.

According to TrendForce, Apple has overtaken Asus in global laptop shipments, moving up from fifth to the fourth position. Report further suggests that the company shipped approx 4.43 million MacBooks in the third quarter of 2017.

Apart from this, reports also claim that the company might come up with the new versions of their AirPods and newly launched Apple HomePod, smart speaker as well.
