Elizabeth Warren seeks to put 'Pocahontas' barbs behind her

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of MA says she has no intention of running for president in 2020, but she also is leaving herself room to reconsider. Elizabeth Warren of MA says she has no intention of running for president in 2020, but she also is leaving herself room to reconsider.

The high-profile liberal is often discussed as a potential 2020 rival to President Donald Trump.

Warren, during an interview on WGBY-TV's "Connecting Point", largely dismissed a Berkshire Eagle editorial's call for her to "take the spit test" and set the record straight on whether or not she has Native American ancestry.

However, Warren's reflection of her heritage remains based on what she was told by her parents.

Warren's claims of Cherokee and Delaware Indian heritage became a subject of controversy in 2012 when it was revealed she had no documented proof, instead saying she relied on family lore to substantiate her ancestry claims.

In the speech, Warren, who doesn't claim citizenship in a tribe, said, "My mother's family was part Native American".

"It's been just fine for my brothers and me", she said.

The Democrat, who had reportedly claimed family ties to Cherokee and DE tribes, said she was unaware that the university had promoted her as a minority professor, according to the Associated Press. I never used my family tree to get a break or get ahead. "I never used it to advance my career".

Jeffrey Berry, a professor of American politics and political behavior at Tufts University, said no speech will make the narrative go away, in part because conservative groups and Trump enjoy taunting her.

Warren also confirmed that she has no plans of running against Trump in 2020.

In the end, he said, voters are more interested in fundamentals like the economy.

Gabby Archilla, a 26-year-old law student in Boston, said taking a DNA test might help Warren but probably wouldn't silence her critics.

After hearing this story, Todd returned to his initial concern: Why not do genealogical research or take a DNA test to find out her actual heritage?
