Immigration Showdown: Feds Are Suing California

Immigrants have not been the mass murderers - we grow those crazies right here in America - and Sessions wouldn't dare file suit against the NRA to stop and desist in lobbying the government, because he is afraid of them.

Larger US cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago and NY ruled by the opposition Democrats, adopted policies that hinder the sharing of information between the local police and immigration officers. She says she did nothing illegal. In July, Sessions announced that only cities and states cooperating with immigration agents could receive certain grants.

"So here's my message to Mayor Schaaf", Sessions added. "How dare you?" he said of Schaaf at a California Peace Officers Association meeting in Sacramento.

California's attorney general defends the state laws as constitutional saying it's essential to protect people's rights to privacy. She did not know any specifics of what the announcement may entail, but Sessions accepted the invitation to speak at the annual event.

An hour after Sessions' speech, Governor Jerry Brown responded to the lawsuits. "This is a political stunt", he told reporters, as quoted by The Hill.

"I did not give specific information that could have endangered law enforcement", she said, explaining she stood by her decision at a press conference.

He also called the Trump administration "full of liars".

The lawsuit is modeled on a suit filed in 2010 by the Obama administration that claimed Arizona laws cracking down on illegal immigration unconstitutionally interfered with immigration policy set by Congress, according to Politico.

The sheriffs association was the only one of those groups to oppose Senate Bill 54, the law passed a year ago that limits state and local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities. And a provision in a budget trailer bill establishes a state review process for immigration detention centers that contract with ICE.

The laws provide some of the most generous protections in the nation for immigrants facing deportation, but the Justice Department argues that they improperly venture into the enforcement of U.S. immigration law that is strictly a matter for the federal authorities. The challenge to SB 54 will be the one that other cities and states will be watching.

Schaaf issued an unusual public warning last month about an immigration operation in Northern California. "We are doing nothing to intrude on the work of federal government to do immigration enforcement".

Fred Vanderhoof, Chair of Fresno County Republic Party, is against sanctuary state laws.

Mr Leon, a Los Angeles Democrat, wrote the state's bill deeming it a "sanctuary city", which limits the assistance given to federal immigration authorities. It also makes an exception for suspects in serious crimes punishable with prison time for which a judge has found probable cause.

Sessions, who has blamed sanctuary city policies for crime and gang violence, spoke Wednesday to groups representing police chiefs, sheriffs, district attorneys, narcotics investigators and the California Highway Patrol. The Justice Department says the laws, "reflect a deliberate effort by California to obstruct the United States' enforcement of federal immigration law". "We've seen this B-rated movie before", he said.

The Department of Justice is targeting the signature piece of a sweeping 2017 package of bills that increased protections for undocumented immigrants.
