Seoul envoy thanks China for role in N. Korea nuclear talks

Just days after he stood outside the White House and announced the planned meet between the U.S. president and North Korean leader, Chung Eui-yong was in Beijing to brief China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi on the fast-moving efforts to address the nuclear standoff.

"(South Korean) President Moon Jae-in believes that the leadership of the Chinese government, especially the leadership ability of President Xi, has played a big role in this", Chung said. Should he fail to do so - which would effectively remove the USA from the deal - negotiating a new non-proliferation agreement with North Korea would prove immensely hard.

"It is a miserable plight of Japan to dance to the tune of the US master for the pressure on the DPRK".

That was the first sign of thawing of relations between Pyongyang and Seoul that set in motion further warming up of relations between the two Korean states. When asked whether Trump would consider travelling to Pyongyang, White House principal deputy secretary Raj Shah said, "I don't think that that's highly likely but again, I'm not going to rule anything out".

"There's already been a bit of confusion in the messaging from the White House so it probably makes sense to get some of the ground rules established before go public with it", said Abrahamian.

President Trump's reaction was a threat of "fire and fury like the world has never known".

The officials' comments followed the surprise announcement last week that President Donald Trump has agreed to meet the North's Kim Jong Un by May.

Creating such discomfort would be a good reason in and of itself for Pyongyang to delay its official response to the summit proposal. Well, what are they? "The United States has nothing to lose by two leaders sitting down and talking about nuclear disarmament". Will it need to withdraw American forces from South Korea? "So, he would use this to extract payoffs", McMaster continued, "as the regime has done with their nuclear program in the past, and to drive the States and our allies away from this peninsula that he would then try to dominate."For those duly skeptical of the efficacy and wisdom of preventive war - not least because of the incredible human suffering it would necessarily entail-the truth of McMaster's argument is not almost so "clear" as he claims. As retired Col. Andrew Bacevich, a military historian, has argued that, Kim is indeed "engaged in a huge game of blackmail", but not as McMaster describes".

He stressed that North Korea must stick to the commitments that were relayed by South Korean officials who met with Kim last week and then came to Washington and briefed Trump. -North Korea summit on Saturday but deleted the story the next day, South Korean media reported.

It all began last month when Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of Kim Jong-un, arrived in South Korea for the Winter Olympics, marking the first time a member of the country's dynastic family crossed the demilitarized border (DMZ) since the Korean War.

The summit may be complicated with issues tacked on from the Western side as well.
