Trump calls for death penalty for drug dealers at rally

Trump calls for death penalty for drug dealers at rally

During his speech in Pennsylvania, Mr Trump also attacked his critics and raised the idea of having drug dealers face the death penalty during a raucous rally on Saturday for a Republican congressional candidate.

DETROW: So rallying with Rick Saccone in a big airplane hanger, Trump put the Trump twist on the presidency.

In addition to the coming special election, Trump looked back to the 2016 election where he derided a speech made by Senator Elizabeth Warren of MA - whom he called "Pocahontas" - on behalf of Hillary Clinton for being "so angry".

"Some countries have a very tough penalty, the ultimate penalty, and they have much less of a drug problem than we do", Trump said during an appearance at a White House summit on opioids earlier this month.

Under pressure over a scandal involving a porn star named Stormy Daniels, Trump singled out his wife, Melania, for praise. He said that he'd "love to beat Oprah" and that he knows "her weakness".

Trump referred to the Democrat as "Lamb the sham", CNN reported.

"We have to build a wall", Trump said.

Trump will likely promote his new tariffs on steel and aluminum, which are popular in the district in the heart of steel country. But Lamb also supports the duties, so the issue isn't as effective a wedge for Saccone and Trump as it might otherwise be.

Despite his allegiance to Trump, Saccone has underwhelmed national Republicans in this heavily pro-Trump district, and public polling ahead of the Tuesday election has shown Saccone neck-and-neck with Lamb, a former federal prosecutor and Marine.

President Donald Trump arrived in western Pennsylvania on Saturday night with a message for the Republican running there: Don't embarrass me. "Rick is going to vote for us all the time".

When Mr. Trump said that he may meet with Mr. Kim, some in the crowd began to boo. He said, "Steel is back, and aluminum is back".

"We need Republicans, we need their votes".

The president dismissed Democrat Lamb's efforts to distance himself from his national party and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.

"Many countries have the problem, we have a problem, but what a great job you are doing and I just wanted to call and tell you that". Trump was blunt about that as he stood with Saccone on the stage at the end of the rally.

Finally, Trump announced his 2020 campaign slogan would be "Keep America great" since he had already "made America great again".

Trump regaled his audience with meetings alongside world leaders.

Trump also reprised his criticism of liberal Senator Elizabeth Warren, whom he mocks as "Pocahantas", and Senator Bernie Sanders, the far left independent who challenged Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination in 2016.

The latest Gallup polls show that just 55 per cent in the United States are in favor of the death penalty for murder - a decline from recent decades, but higher than the historic lows in the 1960s.

The event was held at Atlantic Aviation in Moon Township.

"Is there anything more fun than a Trump rally?" he asked on the heels of a whirlwind week in which his chief economics adviser said he was resigning, he formalised steep tariffs on steel and aluminium that angered business leaders and allies, and abruptly announced, through South Korean officials, that he meant to meet with Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader.

And if this race is as close as people are predicting, a little boost from the president could make the difference, and, Republicans hope, prevent a political embarrassment heading into the midterms.
