Winter Storm Warning in Effect through 4 am Monday

A winter storm watch is in effect for 8.5 million people in New England, including residents of Boston, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine. By Monday morning most places should see the turnover from rain to snow. The chance for more than three inches of accumulation Monday into Tuesday is 36 percent while the chance for less than an inch of snowfall accumulation is 10 percent, according to AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., reports heavy snow possible with total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches, with localized higher amounts along ridgetops. The dynamic forces of the system will still likely get snow to the surface, but a low of 33-34 rather than 30-32 would reduce accumulating ability in any given area.

Late afternoon models did not show measurable amounts of snowfall for the lower elevations in the Lakeway Area.

A storm system causing severe weather Sunday along the Gulf Coast is forecast to move off the East Coast, turn into a nor'easter and threaten the Northeastern United States on Monday night into Tuesday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS. A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
