Brooke Henderson hangs on to win LPGA's Lotte

Still five months short of her 21st birthday, Canadian Brooke Henderson today added a 6th LPGA Tour title to her already stunning resume with a four-shot victory over Spain's Azaharo Munoz at the Lotte Championship at Ko Olina on the island of Oahu.

Sharp is part of a six-way tie at 69, with third-ranked Inbee Park, qualifier Julieta Granada, Mo Martin, Lizette Salas — who lost a playoff here in 2013 — and 2018 Kia Classic victor Eun-Hee Ji.

Henderson, however, didn't give Park a chance, extending her lead to two shots with a birdie on the par-five 14th. She drained a 10-footer for another birdie one the 16th, where she four-putted Friday.

"The wind wasn't as strong early today and there were softer conditions", said Henderson.

That left Park two shots behind Henderson going into the seventh, but she fell further behind as she struggled to make birdies.

Henderson finished the day at nine under par, one shot clear of American Mo Martin, who shot a 72, and two shots ahead of Japan's Nasa Hataoka and South Korean Inbee Park in third place. It was her sixth LPGA win.

Munoz put together the round of the day by two shots when her 67 moved her from a share of 15th to outright second, her best finish since consecutive runner-up finishes in March of 2014.

Henderson, the 20-year-old Canadian ranked 14th in the world, birdied four of her first six holes to surge into the lead in relatively calm morning conditions. The last time she was at No. 1 was October 2015, before Lydia Ko of New Zealand took the spot.

The five-time LPGA victor fired a six-under 66 in the second round for a two-round 10-under 134 total at the Ko Olina Golf Club in Oahu, Hawaii."Today was a lot of fun, I got off to a really fast start", said Henderson.

Starting Thursday, the LPGA Tour will continue at the inaugural Hugel-JTBC LA Open in California.
