Former US First Lady Barbara Bush in Failing Health

Former US First Lady Barbara Bush in Failing Health

Lawmakers from across the political spectrum led tributes to former first lady Barbara Bush Sunday after a spokesman announced the 92-year-old was in "failing health".

"Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs".

The source said she is being cared for at her home in Houston and has decided she does not want to go back into the hospital.

Mrs. Bush is surrounded by her family and appreciates the messages and prayers she has been receiving.

She and Former President George H.W. Bush have been married for 73 years and have both been dealing with health issues. She was also the 33rd Second Lady of the United States during her husband's term as vice president. HISTORY Barbara Bush is the second woman in USA history to be both a wife and mother of a US president. She was also hospitalized after experiencing fatigue and coughing.

She is also known for her sense of humor, once joking that her husband couldn't keep a job, but that, at least, he wasn't boring.

During her time as First Lady, Barbara Bush focused on literacy. Her son George said that a "crowning achievement" of his father, who was fond of coming up with nicknames for friends and family, was anointing Barbara, "The Silver Fox". "I'm not sure God will recognize me; I have so many new body parts!" Bush read a children's book and introduced the patients to her dog during the visit.

The couple met at a Christmas dance in 1941, when Barbara Pierce was 16 and George Bush was 17.

Granddaughter Jenna Bush Hager posted a photo to Instagram earlier this week showing the four generations of Bush women.
