Manchester United vs West Brom Match Analysis

They have won the title with five games to spare after West Brom's remarkable victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

A week after preventing its neighbors from clinching the title in front of their own fans by rallying from 2-0 down to win 3-2, United delivered a similarly unlikely result as managerless West Brom pulled off one of the shocks of the season.

As for City, it has a month to finish a season with the most points, goals and wins in a single Premier League campaign.

"Manchester City, we won it for you" chanted the West Brom fans at the end of a match greeted by jeers by the home faithful.

I know them [my players], I smell, I have a lot of experience and that's not me because I won eight titles and I'm not in the moon because I won against Manchester City - a match that is only three points.

He said: "We've got faith in one another, the players, the staff. Things have gone a bit by the wayside this year".

Guardiola failed to win a trophy during his first season in English football but has now added the Premier League to the EFL Cup crown collected against Arsenal in February.

United was too narrow and predictable, with wide players Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata constantly cutting inside and leaving the midfield congested.

United midfielder Nemanja Matic had headed a corner across his own goal area and Rodriguez reacted quickly to nod home the victor.

Mourinho greeted West Brom caretaker manager Darren Moore with a warm hug after the two teams had made their way onto the pitch.

"We didn't play simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn".

While letting West Brom have a feel for the game, United will have felt in control but when it came to pushing forward and punishing their opponents the home side faltered.

If Moore was able to coax such a performance out of these players, then what could he, or an alternative choice, have done with more time? It's important we continue to fight and work hard for each other. I was unfortunate enough to play against that quality United side that dominated in the '90s, but this side would have beaten them - that's how good they are.

WE SHOULD HAVE HAD A PENALTY IN THE FIRST HALF "Paul Tierney [the referee] was unlucky in one decision [the challenge by Craig Dawson on Ander Herrera] but I don't blame him at all - it's football".

Thierry Henry: "I am not surprised with what Pep has done in this league and past year, I was one of the people saying stop having a go at the man because that's how he plays".

Guardiola might not have seen Jay Rodriguez's 73rd-minute winning goal at Old Trafford because he was due to be playing golf with his son instead of watching the match.

"We deserve to be punished, but the defeat was too heavy".
