Mourinho Blames Man United's Players For West Brom Defeat

José Mourinho said he could "smell" a bad performance coming from Manchester United after the 1-0 defeat by bottom-of-the-table West Bromwich Albion that confirmed Manchester City as Premier League champions and left him questioning his players' attitude. "City won the title because they won more points than everyone else, not. because United did not win, it is not fair on them".

An unimpressed Jose Mourinho branded his side "masters in complication" and said some of his players got carried away by their 3-2 win over City last weekend and lost focus. "I don't know if I was the first or second or third but I congratulated them face to face when I had the chance", Mourinho said.

Mourinho told reporters, "I won eight titles and I am not on the moon because I won against Manchester City". They lost only two matches because they were the best team.

"I saw lots of people in the moon because we won against City".

United's afternoon was symptomatic of their entire season.

While they missed out narrowly on that particular record, here are some of the best Opta numbers from City's special Premier League season.

United still had time to get back into the game but struggled to break down a West Brom side that were organised, committed and put in one of their best performances of the season.

Mourinho pulled no punches about his squad's lack of consistency, but the former Chelsea boss made it clear he believes he can return United to the summit of English football.

"Football is unpredictable but I expect United to beat West Brom" said the Spaniard.

The Baggies are sitting at the base of the English Premier League table standings and will find it hard to stop a Manchester United side that is pushing to finish second in the league this year. It was three years ago and I know how to win. I think with my experience you don't win titles with inconsistency.

"Everything must be consistent until the last day. One of the things we have to improve is consistency".

The first half was a awful advert for the English top-flight.
