New update to make Google Assistant more life-like

It will nudge children to use polite language when interacting with the Google Assistant's "Pretty Please feature".

Now instead of having to say "Hey Google" or "OK Google" every time to give a command, users only have to do this one time and then have a conversation with the Assistant.

At Google I/O today, CEO Sundar Pichai said these controls are all part of the company's new "digital wellbeing" initiative, which is created to help consumers keep their tech habits in check. More importantly, you can feel free to jump into your media or other apps while Maps navigation is running, since the turn-by-turn readout is also pushed to a secondary display in the middle of the dashboard.

"To help you understand habits, focus on what matters, switch off and wind down". The new Assistant will now be naturally conversational, visually assistive, and helpful in getting things done.

Tell the Google Assistant to book a table for four at 6:00 pm, it tends to the phone call in a human-sounding voice complete with "ums" and "likes", and sends you a message with the details.

As you type, Smart Compose pops up suggestions about what you might want to write next - similar to Google autocomplete.

Further, the Assistant would soon be able make calls for you to make reservations at restaurants or salons.

Machine learning is also at the core of Android P that is built on the key themes of intelligence, simplicity and digital well being.

"It uses artificial intelligence to bring forward the best of human intelligence - great reporting done by journalists around the globe - and will help you stay on top of what's important to you", Pichai said of overhauled Google News.

The Google Photos app aims to get smarter about suggesting who you might want to share photos with.

However, to promote broader viewpoints and publishers, the app will also have a Full Coverage feature which will show how a single story is being reported across multiple sources.

Support for Linux will enable you to create, test and run Android and web app for phones, tablets and laptops all on one Chromebook. You'll also see shortcuts to five predictive apps curated using Google's on-device machine learning.

Are you addicted to your phone? Swipe to the left or right on the new home button, and you'll instantly be taken to the app carousel, where you can scroll to select an app.
