Trump Jr. untroubled by meeting Russian

In a report released in January 2017, USA intelligence agencies concluded that Russian Federation engaged in a hacking-and-propaganda effort aimed at influencing the 2016 vote. The short statement by the Senate committee leaders did not address the issue.

On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee released almost 2,000 pages of interviews regarding Donald Trump Jr's clandestine meeting with a Russian lawyer in June of 2016.

In Trump Jr.'s interview, investigators pointed to phone records in which Trump Jr. had two calls from Emin Agalarov, the Russian pop star who helped arrange the Trump Tower meeting, with a call from a blocked number in between.

The meeting is under scrutiny in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

The thousands of pages of emails, text messages, congressional testimony and other documents released by Grassley, a Republican, provide fresh evidence of coordination between associates of Trump and Russians with ties to president Vladimir Putin's government. Days after he was named White House communications director, Anthony Scaramucci offered to work with Rob Goldstone, an intermediary for a Russian oligarch, to counter "pressure on all sides".

"I believed it was a bad idea and that we shouldn't do it".

Scaramucci, in a text message to Reuters, said the email "had nothing to do with Russian Federation".

The Agalarovs had bonded with the Trumps during the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow.

Trump has denied any collusion with Russian Federation on his campaign and calls Mueller's investigation a "witch hunt".

A full report on the panel's findings will be published after the declassification of the intelligence report.

They also show the disappointment of Trump Jr. and other campaign figures, including brother-in-law Jared Kushner and campaign chairman Paul Manafort, when the meeting failed to yield the harmful Clinton information they thought they'd get - as well as the increasing panic of one of the meeting participants who feared his reputation would be ruined by his role in setting it up. Veselnitskaya declined to be interviewed, but provided written answers to questions.

Trump Jr. famously said "I love it" when he was briefed ahead of time that the meeting could produce "incriminating" information about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton that could hurt her campaign. "Politics, I knew nothing about", Goldstone said, adding that neither did Emin Agalarov nor Agalarov's father, Aras.

Like Trump Jr. and Kushner, who released a public statement past year, Goldstone said the meeting was disappointing.

In a note to Goldstone accompanying the statement, the lawyers said it would be "our preference" that Goldstone say "nothing more, at least for the time being".

Trump Jr. deflected multiple questions during the interview, saying he couldn't recall.

Conaway's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. "Let's see if that holds".

Goldstone went on to relay that the Washington Post was reporting that the FBI was investigating the meeting. It could blow up.

On Wednesday, Don Jr. said that the transcripts show that he had cooperated with the investigation.

"The first order of business in any new inquiry is to conduct a thorough investigation in order to determine the facts".

Russian-American lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin said the Russian lawyer leading the meeting, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was "disappointed" and "embarrassed" and felt like her efforts fell flat.

"Each interviewee was advised that we only wanted to hear the truth", he said.

Perhaps the biggest one: what President Donald Trump knew about the meeting and when he was told about it.

Senator Mark Warner said, "After a thorough review, our staff concluded that the (intelligence community) conclusions were accurate and on point".

What do you think of Donald Trump Jr.?

Strong duartina approval of the results of the investigation is contrary to the recent decision of the Republicans in the House of representatives.

Moscow has repeatedly denied the accusations.

Former FBI director James Comey, who was sacked by Trump, was invited but did not appear.

The Senate Intelligence Committee has determined that the US intelligence community was correct in assessing that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 presidential election with the aim of helping then-candidate Donald Trump, contradicting findings House Republicans reached last month.

Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller is also looking into the matter.

And it's always possible there is in fact something in the transcripts that will spark new leads for those with subpoena power - or for new committee chairmen should Democrats win back the House or Senate in November. The president cheered the House Intelligence Committee's report, claiming on Twitter that it vindicated him by finding there was no evidence his campaign colluded with Russian Federation.
