United States elite forces secretly helping Saudis combat Houthi missile operations in Yemen

A dozen Green Berets helping Saudi forces locate and destroy Yemen's Houthi weapons caches, says New York Times report.

This secret operation directly contradicts previous claims by the Pentagon that U.S.

But sending US ground forces to the border is a marked escalation of Western assistance to target Houthi fighters who are deep in Yemen.

Senator Tim Kaine, Democrat of Virginia and a member of the Armed Services Committee, on Thursday called the Green Berets mission a "purposeful blurring of lines between train and equip missions and combat".

United States lawmakers have sounded growing alarm about America's support for Saudis in Yemen, while President Donald Trump has bolstered ties with Riyadh and fostered a close relationship with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

During a meeting on Capitol Hill in March, senators pressed Pentagon officials about the military's role in the Saudi-led conflict, demanding to know whether American troops were at risk of entering into hostilities against the Houthis.

Military confrontations have continued between Yemen's National Army forces and the Houthi militia in several battle fronts in the northern province of Saada on Saturday.

Even the Saudi armys worldwide airport, along with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman renewed a petition that the United States send troops to assist the Houthi threat is combated by the kingdom.

The local military source, who asked to remain anonymous, said that the government forces air-covered by warplanes of the Saudi-led coalition heavily attacked the Houthi-controlled area of AlBarh in the western part of Taiz.

The southern city of Najran - close to the border with Yemen, has borne the brunt ever since the Houthi militia forces took over swathes of the country in a 2014 coup. In fact, new evidence suggests the Pentagon lied to Congress during the March debate about U.S. involvement, presenting the USA role at present being limited to targeting and mid-air refueling of Saudi warplanes.

But Saudi state Al Arabiya TV said the Saudi air defense forces intercepted the two missiles and destroyed them.

Gen. Joseph L. Votel, the Head of United States Central Command, confirmed this official line, stating: "We are authorised to help the Saudis defend their border".

A batch of USA special elite forces is militarily supporting the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, according to the Independent newspaper.
